The Best budget low carb meals Plan
What if you want to start the low-carb diet but your cash flow doesn’t allow you to buy enough food? Don’t worry! It turns out that there are lots of tasty and cheap meals you can have on the keto diet. In this article, I’ll show you how to make delicious low-carb meals when you are on a budget. Everything here will take no more than 20 minutes to prepare, so read on!
How I Started with budget low carb meals
The first thing I did was to figure out my budget and how much money I had to spend. This is essential when you’re just starting out and trying to figure things out. I created a spreadsheet with two columns: one for groceries and one for meals out. In each cell, I put in an amount of money, then listed below it what my options were for that price point. That’s essentially how I figured out what meals would work best on my low-carb diet while still staying within my budget (to read more about why meal planning is so important click here ). Once I’d figured out what worked best, it was time to go shopping!
Breakfast Options
The first meal of every day is an important one; it gives your body energy to start your day and sets you up to eat healthy at lunch and dinner. It’s also extremely easy to cut costs by making low-carb breakfast options at home. Rather than buying breakfast on the go, prepare egg muffins or sausage patties ahead of time, so that all you have to do is heat them up in the morning before work. These tasty meals are more affordable than going out for breakfast and can help get your diet off on a healthy track—not to mention keep your kitchen clean!
Lunch Options
Chicken Salad Wraps (meal plan) – $1.40 per serving; Buffalo Chicken Lettuce Wraps (recipe) – $2.00 per serving; Southwest Turkey Lettuce Cups (meal plan) – $3.30 per serving; Buffalo Chicken Salad with Homemade Ranch Dressing (dinner recipe) – $1.10 per serving
Dinner Options
Tasty, cheap, and low carb: Grill it! Grilling can be just as healthy as sautéing or steaming if you plan ahead. Choose lean cuts of meat that don’t need marinating; marinating only adds calories without any nutritional value. Avoid adding oil to your grill, too—the fat from your meat is enough to keep it from sticking. Keep your sides simple with fresh greens drizzled with olive oil and vinegar or grilled veggies seasoned with spices like salt, pepper, and chili powder. Don’t forget about dessert! Whip up a quick strawberry-banana split using frozen strawberries and a little almond milk blended together.
Snacks on a Budget
If you’re following a low-carb diet, snacks can be one of your best tools to help you stick to your eating plan. Whether it’s high in protein or simply something that helps satisfy hunger, keto snacks are essential for keeping your diet on track. That said, sometimes finding these snacks on a budget can be difficult—but there are still options out there!
